When biotech founders think about investors, we tend to put everyone into one big bucket: VCs.
But the person writing your pre-seed or seed check may look very different from the traditional VC most founders picture (you know, Patagonia vest and all 🙂).
My guests on this week’s Bio Founder GPS podcast were Tim Martens and Elizabeth Little from Vaark Ventures, a healthcare-focused syndicate built around a network of roughly 250 investors and operators.
And their backgrounds are anything but traditional.
Tim is a pediatric heart surgeon and biomedical engineer who originally started Vaark as a venture studio to solve problems he saw from his vantage point in healthcare.
Elizabeth is a molecular biologist who spent years at Roche working across diagnostics, clinical decision support, and innovation before moving into startup evaluation and investing.
That combination made for a fascinating conversation about what happens on the other side of the investment process once you submit your pitch deck.
